For students and new grads
Your 60-second pitch, seen before your resume.
For students and new graduates looking for internships and first jobs, candid starts with a 60-second video pitch in your own words. Recruiters meet you in it before they read your resume. It's coming soon and isn't open at any school yet, so signing up and confirming your email puts you on the early list.
Get early accessHow candid will work for students
You record up to 60 seconds with your front camera, and recording in candid stops by itself at 60. You watch it back, then post it or redo it.
You apply to roles with the pitch you already made, or record one for the role. Each application shows where it stands: Sent, Viewed, Shortlisted, Closed or Offer.
Recruiters can message you, and you can reply.
What to say in a 60-second pitch
This advice works now, as an elevator pitch at a career fair or an answer to "tell me about yourself", and later on candid. Keep to three points:
- Who you are, in one line: your name, what you study, and when you graduate.
- One specific thing you've done, and what came of it.
- The role you want next, and why.
A sample pitch, and how to record yours
A short example, made up for this page: "I'm Sam, I study economics, and I graduate next spring. Last year I ran the budget for my student theater group, found where we were overspending, and we finished the season with money left over. I'm looking for an analyst internship, because I like work where the numbers decide something."
Pick one example and tell it well. Your resume can cover the rest.
Talk to the camera as you would to one person. Know your three points, say them in your own words, and time one run-through before you record. If a take goes wrong, record it again.
See how many recruiters watched, and which companies saved it
Sending an application often means hearing nothing back. On candid, your dashboard will show how many recruiters watched your pitch in the pitch feed, and which companies saved it.
Free to be seen, and nobody can pay to go first
Recording a pitch, seeing its views and saves, and applying with it are free for students. Employers pay for candid.
Nobody can pay to be seen first, and we will never sell student data. Read our promises.
When candid opens at your school
We're opening campus by campus, starting with student clubs. If you're in a club, ask an officer to sign it up. How clubs sign up.
We don't have dates or a list of schools yet. To get on the early list:
- Sign up with your school email, the one ending in .edu. Name and school are required; "Class of" is optional.
- Confirm by pressing the button in the email we send. The link works for 48 hours.
- A person looks at each sign-up.
- We'll email you when candid opens at your school.
Questions
Does candid cost anything for students?
Students pay nothing to record a pitch, be seen or apply with it. Employers pay for candid.
Is a pitch the same as a video resume?
Close to it: a short video of you, in your own words. On candid it runs 60 seconds at most, and your resume sits one tap behind it.
Which employers will see the first pitches?
When candid opens, the first student pitches go to a small group of employers, chosen for fit. How employers join.
Will I know if a recruiter watched?
Your dashboard will count the recruiters who watch your pitch in the pitch feed, without naming them, and name the companies that save it. An application shows as Viewed once a recruiter opens it.
Can I re-record it?
Yes, as often as you like. Once candid opens, you can redo a take, record a new pitch later, or take one down from your profile.
Do I still need a resume?
Keep one. You can add it to your profile as a PDF, one tap behind your pitch. Applying to a role needs only your pitch.
My resume is short. Does a pitch help?
It can. A pitch shows a recruiter how you think and how you talk, which a one-page resume with little work history can't.
Why do you ask for my school email?
Sign-up is for students and new graduates, so we ask for the address ending in .edu and send it a link to confirm.
I've graduated. Can I still sign up?
Yes, if you still have your .edu address, since sign-up needs one. Under "Class of", choose "Already graduated".
What happens after I sign up?
You confirm your email, a person looks at your sign-up, and we'll email you when candid opens at your school. If the confirm link runs out after 48 hours, sign up again with the same email and we'll send it again.
